August 15, 2023

Mangaluru: The nature favoured the celebration in the open grounds of Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru, amidst an august gathering of students, staff, and parents who waited in silence and reverence for the tri-colour to be hoisted. The chief guest, Mrs Caroline Pais, Vice President of the school’s PTA, along with the Joint secretary, Sr Asha Prima, Administrator Sr Carissima and Principal Sr Melissa marched in unison with the NCC Cadets towards the flag post to the tune of the euphonious school band.  The chief guest hoisted the tri-colour to the majestic rhythm of the National Anthem, followed by the Jhanda Geet by the students of grade XI. The head girl, Anvila administered the pledge. Further, the march past lead by the NCC Cadets, the Scouts and Guides and the students of grade VI to XII was indeed magnificent.

The cultural extravaganza in the school auditorium commenced with an all-faith prayer, which was followed by a striking welcome dance. The significance and tribute were meaningfully articulated and patriotically portrayed. The National symbols were displayed in a unique way through a melodrama that included a mime show and dances. The dance drama encompassed the time line from August 15th, 1947, to August 15th, 2023, the struggle and the glory, which left an imprint of patriotism and pride. The ode to the veterans was befitting while a fitting tribute was paid to the armed forces. The culmination of the program was heart-warming when all the performers entered the ambience waving the tri-colour with pride.

The speech by the chief guest, Mrs Caroline Pais at the event was inspiring and motivational. She praised the students for their excellent performance. By sharing an anecdote about the starfish, she emphasized the importance of individuals making a positive impact, no matter how small it may seem. She quoted the famous line, “Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country,” underlining the importance of active citizenship and personal responsibility in nation-building. The speech highlighted key messages like saving water, avoiding wastage of electricity, planting trees, and cleaning up the local area, thereby promoting a healthy and green India.

The principal, Sr Melissa, in her appreciation for a spirit filled, patriotic program by the students of grades IX and XI, reminded the gathering to uphold the tradition and culture of our great nation wherever we are and to whatever scale of height one may rise.
