Workshop on ‘Construction of Cladograms’ organized at St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru

Mangaluru: The Department of Zoology at St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, organized a workshop on ‘Construction of Cladograms’ on September 15, 2023. Dr Sumangala Rao, Head, Department of Microbiology and Forensic Science, Yenapoya College, Mangaluru, was the resource person.

Dr Sumangala spoke about the phylogenetic aspects of the cladograms and explained various features of a cladogram that include clade, cladistics, phylogenetic tree, and how to construct a cladogram using similar and dissimilar characteristics of the taxa. She emphasised on the importance of the cladogram in depicting the ancestral relationship between the various taxa. Students were later given sets of information to construct a cladogram practically. Students learned about the various aspects of cladogram construction with the input given by the resource person.

Mrs Ameetha K., Head, Department of Zoology, Ms Vivid Dsouza and Ms Blairil Vishma Dcunha were present. 45 final-year B.Sc. students took part in this workshop.
