SJEC & EG Host HackToFuture 2.0: Igniting Innovation in Mangaluru’s STEM Hub

Mangaluru: St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), in partnership with EGDK India Private Limited, is hosting “HackToFuture 2.0,” a 36-hour-long Hackathon in Mangaluru. Aspiring young students in the STEM field collaborate to develop innovative solutions in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain Technology, and Cyber Security. HackToFuture 2.0 provides a platform for development as well as competition. The three-day event runs from the night of February 19, 2024, to the afternoon of February 21, 2024, within the SJEC campus. The hackathon is supported by SJEC-AICTE IDEA Lab, IUCEE, SJEC IEEE Student Chapter and is led by the Sceptix Club of SJEC.

In its second edition, HackToFuture drew in more than 1600 registrations spanning 13 states across India. Participants were tasked with submitting solution abstracts addressing their selected problem statements. Following rigorous evaluation, the top 30 teams emerged based on the excellence of their submissions. Distinguished higher education institutions such as NITK-Surathkal, NMAMIT-Nitte, MIT-Manipal, Christ University Bangalore, CMRCET Hyderabad, SKCET Coimbatore, and others are among the participants.

The final round of the Hackathon on February 19, 20, and 21, 2024, will feature over 150 students working on realising their ideas with a spur of enthusiasm and innovation. The teams have an opportunity to interact with Mr. Allan Bech, CTO – EGDK; Mr. Frederik Braun, Senior Vice President, EGDK; and Mr. Michal Glowinski, CIO, EGDK. The Hackathon would conclude with a valedictory programme scheduled for 11:30 AM on the third day, featuring the leadership team from EG along with delegates from SJEC, Mangaluru.

HackToFuture 1.0

The first edition of HackToFuture, a 24-hour hackathon conducted on the 25th and 26th of April 2023, aimed to realise solutions under the categories of Energy & Sustainability, Social Innovation, Finance, and Healthcare. Industry leaders including Mr Mikkel Bardram, CEO – EDGK; Mr Allan Bech, CTO – EGDK, and Ms Tina Bodin – Head of HR- EGDK had interacted with the teams and identified the winners while emphasising the importance of vertical software development. Winners were awarded prizes worth Rs 1,50,000.
