SJEC-AICTE IDEA Lab organized a three-day offline training program titled “Battery Modelling and Algorithm Development with Simulink.”

Mangaluru: The SJEC-AICTE IDEA Lab, in association with SJEC MATLAB, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and MathWorks, India Pvt. Ltd., organized a three-day offline training program titled “Battery Modelling and Algorithm Development with Simulink.” The program was held between August 24th to 26th, 2023. The training aimed to equip participants with practical skills on the subject. Dr. Apurva Kulkarni, Senior Training Engineer from MathWorks India Pvt. Ltd., shared his expertise to ensure a valuable learning experience.

The training covered a range of topics, including battery pack modelling, designing battery management system control logic, and estimating state-of-charge. With MathWorks experts as resource persons, participants were guided through hands-on sessions that required a foundational understanding of Simulink, Stateflow, and Simscape. The curriculum encompassed essential aspects such as cell characterization, modelling battery modules, incorporating thermal effects, and implementing fault diagnostics. The training sessions were designed to provide participants with a deeper insight into industry-standard practices and enhance their proficiency in battery system engineering.

The hands-on training engaged participants in constructing charge and discharge circuits, developing supervisory control logic for battery management systems, and performing closed-loop simulations. The program also emphasized designing passive cell-balancing networks and estimating state-of-charge using various techniques.

The training’s interactive nature allowed participants to complete assigned tasks and engage in practical exercises. This approach facilitated the application of theoretical concepts and provided participants with valuable skills for real-world battery system challenges. The program was coordinated by Ms. Nandini Maninarayana and Mr Rajesh Belchada, Assistant Professor.
