Lourdes Central School celebrates ‘ENGLSIH WEEK 2021-22’

Mangaluru: LCS English week was celebrated virtually from 2nd August to 7th August’ 2021. The Programme began with a prayer song by Evana of class 6 and Evan of class 4 followed by welcome address. Prisha Sudhir of class 10 emphasized on the significance of celebrating English Week. The Resource person Ms. Joyce D’Cunha, Academic Support, English Communication Skills & Drama, Trinity College, London spoke on the importance of English language skills in the present scenario.

Principal Rev Fr Robert Dsouza encouraged the students to participate in all the activities and conveyed his best wishes to all the Lourdites for the success of English Week. The inauguration Programme was compered by Ankita Pai of class 10.

Surprise activities were conducted throughout the English Week that was engaging and interesting:

DAY 1 (2.8.2021): ‘Explore the Nuances of English’- Inauguration of LCS English Week

DAY 2 (3.8.2021):  Students of Classes 6 to 12 were encouraged to create a perfect tagline for ‘Learning English’ and have the tagline as their zoom profile for the Week. Students of Class 1 to 5 were guided to put their thoughts and feelings in a ‘HEART MAP’.

DAY 3 (4.8.2021): Students were engaged in the listening to the Audio book of a short story and gave a suitable title for the story.

DAY 4 (5.8.2021):  Yet another surprise activity had the students sit with their family and read/tell a story. The Photographs were posted in the class WhatsApp group.

DAY 5 (6.8.2021): Students were guided with the benefits of reading and encouraged to read a short story or an editorial column from the newspaper and create a bubble map/mind map/graphic organizer on the main points.

Through the week, an array of activities was organized with the motive to enhance the language skills, vocabulary and make learning more enjoyable for students. Videos on- How to make a HEART MAP, ‘Learn to listen and listen to learn’, tips to develop good listening skills, storytelling with puppets by the enthusiastic students of class 8 and a video on ‘Reading & its Benefits’ by the energetic students of class 3 were shown to bring out the creativity of students.

Various competitions were held for KG to class XII such as Rhyme & Rhythm recitation, Elocution, Heart Map making, Comic Strip, Dialogue writing and Short Story writing to improve the language proficiency of students, to inculcate positive behaviour towards the learning and usage of English Language and to help students invest their time in creativity.   

LCS English week celebration 2021 ended with a finale presentation by the students of class V who articulated Shakespeare’s motivational quotes, presented some amazing facts about the international language and engaged the audience with Quiz time. The tips to help find out the ways to celebrate English in our day-to-day life was the cherry on the top. Thus, the students explored the nuances of English throughout the LCS English Week 2021
