St Joseph Engineering College celebrated its Twenty-Third Foundation Day

Mangaluru: Commemorating the Twenty-Third Anniversary of Laying the Foundation Stone of St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), the college hosted its annual Foundation Day Lecture on February 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the Kalam Auditorium of the college. Dr N Jayasankaran, Former Vice Chancellor, Kanchi University Advisor, VIT University/Rajagiri, Kochi, delivered the Foundation Day Lecture on the topic “Building an Effective Learning Environment to Bridge the Gap Between Learner and Teacher.”.

The session started with a video presentation about SJEC, showcasing the excellent infrastructure, quality, and premium education provided by the institution. Dr Rio D’Souza, Principal, SJEC, started the program by welcoming the gathering and introducing Dr N Jayasankaran, the Chief Guest of the Foundation Day program.

Dr N Jayasankaran started his lecture by quoting that the teaching profession is the noblest among all the professions. In his lecture, he spoke about the five dimensions of effective professional development for teachers and the importance of strong bonding with students. He also stressed the importance of effective communication in the Indian context and the relationship between teachers and learners. He enlightened the audience with the concept of Horace Mann’s research on types of students and the importance of Guru Shishya Parampara in the digital era.

Dr N Jayasankaran also highlighted the idea of holistic development, personalised learning, character building, experiential learning, etc., in understanding Guru Shishya Parampara in the digital age. He addressed the importance of the mentorship program and its positive effect on learning methodologies.

Rev. Fr. Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director, SJEC; Rev. Fr Kenneth Ryner Crasta, Assistant Director; Dr Purushottham Chippar, Vice Principal; Mr Rakesh Lobo, HR Manager; and various Dean’s and HOD’s were present during the occasion. Dr Rolvin S. D’Silva, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, moderated the lecture. The talk ended with a felicitation ceremony for the chief guest of the day, Dr N Jayasankaran, by the SJEC Management as a token of gratitude and respect.

Dr Felcy D’Souza, Librarian, SJEC, presented the Compendium of Research Publications, and Dr Purushottham Chippar presented the list of research awards to the faculties. Dr Shreeranga Bhat, Professor and Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, was bestowed with the Distinguished Research/Innovation Award; Dr Vincent Crasta, Professor, Department of Physics, was awarded the Research Publication Award; Dr K Jyothi, Professor and Head, Department of Chemistry, was awarded the Research Impact Award; Dr ESTR Chandrashekar, Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, was awarded the Early Career Research Award; and Mr Glenson Tony, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, was awarded the Research/Innovation Mentorship Award.

The program was attended by all teaching, non-teaching staff, and postgraduate students of SJEC. Ms Aswathi T., Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, was the convener of the event and delivered the vote of thanks. Ms Florence Nishmitha, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, conducted the program.
