Mount Carmel LKG children engage in VAKT Outdoor Learning
“A little progress each day adds up to big results.”
Mangaluru: The LKG facilitators of Mount Carmel Central School, Maryhill, Mangaluru, make every effort to ensure that their students make little progress day by day, adding up to big results. Weeklong activities were conducted to teach them different concepts in a creative way.
The students of LKG C had an outdoor activity-based story session called ‘Dog and the Bone’ followed by enacting the story. The session was enjoyed by the children, and they were able to understand the story quickly. The masks of the characters in the story set a thrilling and exciting atmosphere among the children.
The prerequisite for reading was well planned and implemented for the students of LKG B, as they enjoyed the activity of blending sounds to read the two-letter word ‘am’, followed by activities to read sentences using these two-letter words. In the end, students confidently read sentences with two-letter ‘am’ words.
The days of the week were taught in a creative VAKT (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile) method. The LKG A students had a number of activities and teaching materials that supported their learning. The spinning wheel and the rhymes spiked this activity. The children were able to say the days of the week fluently.
While the tiny tots enjoyed the activities along with learning, the mentors realized that activity-based teaching truly makes learning for smaller kids joyful and meaningful.
