Mount Carmel Central School observed the “World Day of the Poor”
Mangaluru: The 6th “World Day of the Poor” was observed at Mount Carmel Central School on 12th November 2022 and the School marked it by inviting the adults with special needs from neighbouring Veronica Vihar.
The students of grade II D and E hosted the programme. It was initiated with a prayer dance, followed by a warm welcome. The significance of the day was meaningfully articulated. The skit truly captured in it the cry of the poor and our role towards eradicating poverty. The dances and songs encompassed the message to reach out to the cry of the poor.
The chief guest Ms Nayana Fernandes, an entrepreneur and counselor, in her message elicited from students many acts of charity and cited the best way one can contribute in eradicating poverty is by donating towards the education of the underprivileged and the marginalized children.
Teacher Pavithra introduced Sr Maria Jyothi A.C, a pioneer in the field of working for and with the people who are poor in mind. A burse of Rs.10,000/-, voluntary contribution from the teachers of our school was presented by teacher Jacqueline to Sr Maria Jyothi. Sister appreciated the goodwill of the donors. She also in her message shared the world will be a better place with people of goodwill. The administrator Sr Carissima applauded the students of grade II D and E and acknowledged in a special way the team spirit of the teachers. She also reminisced the virtues of our Foundress Venerable Mother Veronica and how she passionately worked for the poor, the needy and the sick. Students Shubham and Ishnavi delivered the note of gratitude.
Later the adults with special needs were entertained with games and the winners were given prizes. They were also served refreshments which they enjoyed. The prizes and the refreshments were once again courtesy parents, a teacher and her family. The invitees, as a mark of gratitude sang a few songs which was truly heartwarming. The observance of this day ended with a message etched in the minds of everyone gathered – “Yes, we will understand the poor”.
