Maundy Thursday, the Mass of the Last Supper, and Holy Thursday are some of the names this day is known by. Holy Mother Church begins the celebration of the Paschal Triduum today. We closely reflect the infinite love and mercy of God depicted through the total self-emptying sacrifice of His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Maundy Thursday is the Thursday before Easter, believed to be the day when Jesus celebrated his final Passover with His disciples. Reminiscence was celebrated on March 28, 2024. The service commenced at 6:00 p.m.
Rev. Fr Gilbert Lobo,CsSR, Alangar, was the main celebrant, and Rev. Fr Denis DSouza, Parish Priest was the co-celebrant during the mass.
In the sermon, Rev. Fr Gilbert Lobo explained how Jesus Christ had set an example for each one of us by washing the feet of his disciple. He emphasized the role that priests play in building the church and uniting its people through faith and prayer.
As a symbolic gesture and as a tradition to commemorate Jesus’ selfless act of washing his disciples’ feet, Rev. Fr Denis Dsouza washed the feet of the twelve chosen parishioners.
The parish choir animated the ceremony with a melodious voice, and all the parishioners participated in the Maundy Thursday service with great devotion.
