“Judith, a Biblical Drama Rendered by the Select Artists, St Joseph’s Church, Jeppu”

Mangaluru: Judith, a young widow of Israel from the city of Bethulia, made use of her beauty and charm to slay the Assyrian General, Holofornes, when her country leaders failed to trust in God and wished to surrender to the Assyrians. As Holofernes camped near the city of Bethulia to plan war against the Israelites, Judith dared to go to meet Holofernes in his camp, pretending to give information about the Israelites. When she won his trust, she made him drunk and, at a fine moment, beheaded him. As the Assyrians lost their mighty general, the Israelites prevailed over the army of the enemy and saved Israel from the Assyrians. Judith, the story of God’s care for his chosen people through the mediation of Judith, is an invitation to trust in God’s power and surrender ourselves to him.

The biblical story of Judith was rendered in nine scenes with two spectacular dances in 80 minutes by the select actors on the campus of St Joseph Church, Jeppu, to the appreciation of over one thousand people. The drama was scripted by Rev. Fr Ronald Serrao, Rector, St Joseph’s Seminary, and directed by Mr Alwyn Miranda, Jeppu, and steered by Fr Maxim D Souza, Parish Priest, Jeppu Parish.
