“The future depends on what we do in the present” – Mahatma Gandhi

Mangaluru: Gandhi Jayanti is our National Festival celebrated every year on October 2nd to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi the father of our nation.

Lourdes Central School organised the Gandhi Jayanti celebration on October 2 at LCS Ground.

The Principal, Rev. Fr. Robert DSouza, Vice Principal, Mrs Belita Mascarenhas, and Mrs Anita Thomas, along with the cabinet members, graced the occasion with their presence.

Sarva Dharma Prarthana: The programme began with the prayer service with the intentions and Sarva Dharma Prarthana quoting the verses from the Bhagwat Gita, the holy Bible, and the Quran, which highlighted peace, harmony, and brotherhood.

The prayer service was followed by a welcome address delivered by Melric Steve Lobo of Class 12A.

The dignitaries paid floral tribute to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi, and Tanusha Malli of Class VIII appraised the audience on his contribution to the nation. To express patriotism in their own little ways,the lourdites presented a patriotic song that instilled patriotism in us.

Remembering yet another great leader and the second Prime Minister of India,Shree Lal Bahadur Shastri was also given respect and homage on his birth anniversary.

On this occasion, Principal Rev. Fr. Robert DSouza emphasised the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and appealed to everyone to lead a simple life and follow in the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi. He urged the students to be obedient towards parents and teachers and imbibe the values of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.

SWACCH BHARAT SWASTH BHARAT: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Lourdes Central School organised a cleanliness drive for the students from classes IV to XII. Students of classes IX to XII cleanliness drive started from school grounds via Bejai Church Hall, auto stand, and culminated at Bejai Church gate. Classes IV to VIII carried out the cleanliness drive within the school premises. This drive was organised to inculcate awareness among students about a clean environment and a healthy life.

The programme concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Samaira DSouza of Class 10.
