Father Muller Charitable Institutions pays tribute to Rt Rev. Msgr Baptist Menezes

Mangaluru: The sad demise of former Director of the Father Muller Charitable Institutions, Rt Rev. Msgr Baptist Menezes (75), who passed away in Mather Muller Hospital today 23rd August 2023. He was a native of Our Lady of Health Church at Shirva, born on July 28, 1948 and was ordained a Priest for the Diocese of Mangalore on October 25, 1974. After being an Assistant Parish Priest at the Most Holy Redeemer Church, Agrar and Assistant Director at St Antony’s Charitable Institutions, Jeppu, Mangaluru, he was deputed for higher studies in Moral Theology to Rome in 1977 and on completion of his Doctoral studies in 1982, he joined the staff of St Peter’s Pontifical Seminary at Bengaluru, where he served till 1994. Thereafter, he was appointed Administrator at St. Joseph’s Inter-diocesan Seminary, Jeppu, Mangaluru, in 1995.

Rt Rev. Msgr Baptist Menezes was appointed Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions in 1997 and held this post for 10 years till 2007. He was appointed the Episcopal Vicar of the Diocese of Udupi by the Bishop of Mangalore on July 6, 2007, an office he shouldered till Udupi was canonically erected into a new Diocese on October 15, 2012. He was appointed the first Vicar General of the new Diocese of Udupi on December 14, 2012.

On behalf of the Management and all at Father Muller Charitable Institutions, sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members, relatives, friends, and all the staff and students who worked or studied in Father Mullers’ during Rt Rev. Msgr Baptist Menezes’s tenure.

The institution acknowledges his immense contribution and active participation in the growth of the mighty FMCI. Under his able leadership, Father Muller Medical College & Father Muller College of Speech & Hearing were planned and started, along with other Allied Health Science Courses. The construction of Asha Kiran, Mother and Child Block, i.e., General Wards, Operation Theatres, Doctors’ Quarters, Father Muller Homeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Allied Health Science College buildings, and Ladies as well as Gents Hostel blocks for M.B.B.S., Nursing, and Allied Health Sciences Course students was constructed during his tenure. Re-organization of the School of Nursing for the inclusion of the College of Nursing, Cath Lab, MRI, Generator Room, & a whole lot of equipment for the Medical College and Hospital were among the several projects that were also initiated by him. The beautiful St. Joseph Chapel, which was inaugurated on March 13, 2005, was his most favoured project. There are many accolades that Father Mullers’ was blessed with during his leadership as Director. Father Mullers’ will remain ever-grateful for all his work and contributions, and his name will forever be etched on the portals of these institutions.
