Bishop Duming Dias has been consecrated as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Karwar.
Karwar, April 10, 2023: The Episcopal Ordination and Solemn Installation of Msgr. Duming Dias, Bishop Elect of the Diocese of Karwar, took place on April 9th at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph’s High School Ground, Kodibag Road, Kajubag, Karwar.
His Grace The Most Rev. Dr Peter Machado, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Bangalore, led the consecration ceremony. His Excellency Most Rev. Dr Derek Fernandes, Bishop of the Diocese of Belgaum, and His Excellency Most Rev. Dr Francis Serrao SJ were the co-consecrators.
His Eminence Cardinal Philip Neri Ferrao, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Goa, also witnessed the consecration ceremony.
Rev. Fr Stany D’Souza, Rector of Sacred Heart Cathedral, Shivamogga, and Rev. Fr Stephen Maxi Albuquerque, Chancellor of the Diocese of Shimoga, presented Bishop Elect Duming Dias.
Rev. Msgr. Alberto Napolitano, from Apostolic Nunciature, India, read the Papal bull of appointment in Latin. The Chancellor of the Diocese of Karwar read the appointment letter in Konkani.
The Most Rev. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of the Diocese of Udupi, preached a meaningful homily on the role of the Bishop and his mission. He invited the clergy and faithful to pray for their Bishop.
His Grace The Most Rev. Peter Machado, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Bangalore, led the consecration ceremony. He anointed the Bishop, Duming Dias, with oil and gave him the ring, mitre, and staff as the symbols of the shepherd of the Diocese. Then the new Bishop continued the holy Eucharist.
A short benediction program was held by the Diocese of Karwar for the newly anointed Bishop Duming Dias.
A good number of Bishops, Priests, Religious and lay faithful witnessed this historic event in the Diocese of Karwar.
