An Intercollegiate Student Workshop on “Being Professional” held at St Agnes College, Mangaluru

Mangaluru: St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru has organized an intercollegiate student workshop “Being Professional” in association with Indian Institute for Training & Development (ISTD), Mangalore/Udupi Chapter here at St Agnes College, Conference Hall on 18 March 2021.

Sr M Carmel Rita A.C., the administrator of the college and the formal principal of the college inaugurated the workshop by lighting a lamp. In her inaugural address she advised the students that to be professional one should have deep understanding of the job and should develop enough potential and skills to perform that job efficiently & effectively without comprising the value system of the organization. She narrated ten traits of being professional with examples.

Mr Brijesh Balakrishnan, senior vice-president of CSS Corp, delivered the keynote address. He said that during college days students get an opportunity to sharpen their academic knowledge. But only when they step into the professional set up, they get to test their knowledge & skills and excel in their career as different organisations have different work cultures. Attending such workshops help students to learn the soft skills & people skills to hone their potentials.

The chairman of ISTD Mangalore/Udupi Chapter & a Behavioral Trainer Mrs. Nivedita Mirajkar advised the student participants to develop an attitude of positivity in life and work hard with commitment & devotion to achieve success in life whether as an employee or an entrepreneur.

Sr Dr M Venissa A.C., the principal of St Agnes College, in her presidential address said that investing in self-improvement is the best and the most profitable investment.

During the inaugural, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between St Agnes College & ISTD Mangalore/Udupi. Sr Dr M Venissa A.C., the principal of St Agnes College and Mrs. Nivedita Mirajkar, the chairman of ISTD Mangalore/Udupi Chapter were the signatories of the MoU.

Dr Devi Prabha Alva, Associate Professor of Commerce, Member of ISTD & the Convenor of the workshop welcomed the guests & participants and Sr Christina Delphine, the assistant convenor of the workshop proposed the vote of thanks during the inaugural ceremony.

During the whole day students had four sessions by Ms. Shavina Soans on “Professional Etiquettes”, by Mr. Anwesh Shetty on “Blockchain: A Parallel World”, by Ms. Sapna Shenoy on “Charismatic Entrepreneur” and by Mr Yvonil D’Souza on “The Only Thing I Wish I Knew When I was 20 years old”.

There were 120 students from more than 15 colleges who participated in the workshop and expressed their happiness for attending the workshop. This work shop was sponsored by UGC Paramarsh Scheme.

Dr Shailaja H and Mrs Seemanthini Carol Fernandes assisted in the organisation of the workshop.
