St Philomena College Hosts Impact Lecture on ‘Disruptive Innovation: Transforming Industries through Creative Ideation’

Puttur, 18 April 2024: An impactful lecture program was organized under the joint auspices of the Institutional Innovation Council (IIC) and the Departments of Computer Science and Postgraduate Department of Commerce in the P.G. Seminar Hall of the College. Mr Deepak Krishnamurthy, Director of Application Development at Glow Touch Technologies, Mangalore, participated as the speaker. This lecture, part of a series sponsored by the Innovation Cell, the Ministry of Education, and the AICTE, aimed to foster awareness among the youth about startups, innovation, and intellectual property rights.

The session opened with remarks from the principal of the college, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro. In his presidential remarks, he emphasized the importance of proactivity and innovation, stating, “Students should always be proactive. Proactivity and innovation are the key factors for success in any industry. New concepts have propelled many organizations to the pinnacle of success. It is essential for students to embrace dynamic thinking and an innovative spirit.”

Deepak Krishnamurthy then delivered a lecture titled ‘Disruptive Innovation: Transforming Industries through Creative Ideation’. He highlighted that the term ‘disruptive innovation’ was first coined by Clayton Christensen in the 1990s and has evolved from a theoretical concept to a fundamental principle for businesses and nations. “Encouraging a culture of experimentation, customer-centric business models, and collaboration is essential for industries aiming to leverage disruptive innovation,” he remarked, citing examples of organizations that have successfully adapted to changing times and consumer needs.

The program began with prayers led by Sreeraga. Vinayachandra, Dean of the Computer Science Department, extended a warm welcome. The vote of thanks was proposed by Geetha Poornima, Director of the IIC Unit at the college. The event was compered by Swati Shetty, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Commerce. Abhishek Suvarna, coordinator of the IIC unit, and Harshit R, coordinator of the M.Com. program, were also present on stage. Abhishek Kamath and Anush from the III BCA provided assistance. Students from both the BCA and M.Com departments participated in the event.
