SJEC concludes its 30-day coding challenge with a premier hackathon on January 25, 2023

January 28, 2023

Mangaluru: The Training and Placement cell, in collaboration with the Sceptix Club of SJEC, organized a 30-day coding challenge from December 17, 2022. This coding challenge provided a platform for students to learn, hone, and build their coding skills. The challenge promoted problem-solving and established a community of innovators with a passion for coding. The month-long challenge saw students work on mathematical and logical problems involving number sequences, text encryption, and printing patterns hosted on GitHub. Each week culminated in a grand challenge hosted by Hacker rank. Weekly consistent participants and challenge winners received Amazon vouchers worth Rs 24,000.

The challenge concluded with a premiere Hackathon on January 25, 2023, where over 150 innovators worked in 40 teams to develop viable solutions under the categories of agriculture, education, healthcare, and social innovation. The Hackathon witnessed student teams working on a wide range of projects, including AI-enabled chat bots, mobile apps for supporting dyslexia patients, warehouse management solutions, text transliteration, and online teaching aids in local languages. Congratulating the organizers, Principal Dr. Rio D’Souza emphasized the importance of networking and collaboration. “While a Hackathon significantly aids in idea generation, it also enables teams to plan and develop functional software or hardware solutions with a constraint on time and resources, encouraging teamwork and experimentation,” he added. Rev. Fr. Alwyn Richard D’Souza, Assistant Director, SJEC, Dr. Rio D’Souza, Principal and Dr. Purushotham Chippar, Vice Principal, honored the top three teams in each category with cash awards worth Rs 50,000.
