Mangaluru: The Prof. Prakash P. Karat Endowment Lecture – 2024 will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 2.30 pm at “Sanidhya Hall,”  St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru. Prof. Arumugam Thamizhavel, Professor, Department of Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, will deliver the lecture on the topic “Crystal growth and anisotropic studies of strongly correlated electron systems and topological semimetals.” Rev. Dr Praveen Martis SJ, Vice Chancellor, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, will preside over the function. Dr A.P. Radhakrishna, former Head of the Department, St Philomena College Puttur, and Prof. Prakash P. Karat, Professor Emeritus, Dept. of Postgraduate Studies in Physics, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, will be guests of honour. This is the 10th lecture in the series of lectures. To commemorate the tenth lecture, a book containing representative chapters of the previous lectures, “Decadal Odyssey in Physics: A Chronicle of the PPK Endowment Lecture Series,” will be released on the occasion.

Prof. Prakash P. Karat started his career as a lecturer in Physics at St Philomena College, Puttur, and served the college from July 1967 to October 1982. Meanwhile, he pursued his research at the Raman Research Institute in Bengaluru under the scholarly and erudite guidance of Prof. S. Chandrasekhar F.R.S. Prof. Karat joined Mangalore University in 1982 and served as a professor of Physics and later as the Registrar (evaluation) for a year. Prof. Karat has successfully guided four PhD and six MPhil students. He retired from service in the year 2004. Presently, he is serving in the Postgraduate Department of Physics at St Aloysius College (Autonomous) as a visiting professor.

The endowment lecture is organised by his students and admirers in association with the department of Physics, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru. All are welcome.
