Online certificate course on Basic English Skills held at St Agnes College (Autonomous)
Mangaluru: The Department of English St. Agnes College (Autonomous) organized an online certificate course ‘Basic English Skills for Great Careers’ for the students of undergraduate programmes with the aim to improve language skills and consequently their chances for employability.
The course was officially inaugurated on 17 th August by Mrs. Giselle Mehta, Creative Writer and Motivational Speaker through a Google Meet. Principal Sr.Dr. M. Venissa A. C. flagged off the participants to perform well. As part of the inaugural programme Mrs.Giselle Mehta conducted a Creative writing Competition for the participants. Ms. Jean Lobo bagged this first place and Ms. Rithika Adappa and Ms. B. Vaishnavi Shenoy of IIIrd B.Sc bagged the second and third place respectively. They were awarded cash prizes and E-certificates.
The course which commenced on Monday 17th August and concluded on 1st September spanned for thirty hours in total. The topics covered were a wide array from Functional English, including common errors in English, Grammar, Communication Skills, and Pronunciation with Phonetics, Perfect Presentation Skills and Communication for better confidence. The resource people were teachers from the department and some well experienced professionals and trainers from the corporate world.
Two hundred and twenty students enrolled for the course. Their performance was assessed and they were awarded with e-certificates based on their performance. Overall the course attempted to give students a career boost by working on their language, communication skills and creative thinking abilities.
