LCS hosts CBSE Teacher Training Programme in Health and Physical Education

Mangaluru:Lourdes Central School hosted the CBSE Teacher Training Programme on Health and Physical Education on 13 September 2022 in the Audio Visual Room. Sixty Four teachers from various CBSE and ICSE Schools of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts attended the workshop.

The programme began at 9.30a.m. by invoking God’s blessings with a prayer song sung by the School Choir. Rev. Fr Robert DSouza, the Principal welcomed the gathering. This was followed by the lighting of the lamp by Rev. Dr John Baptist Saldanha, the Manager; Rev. Fr Robert DSouza, the Principal; Dr Reshma Ganesh, the Resource Person and Mr Veerendra Alva, the Physical Education Teacher.

Rev. Dr John Baptist Saldanha in his key note address said that Covid 19 had made the students inactive. Presently, the physical activities at school have made them enthusiastic and energetic. He said that the PE Teachers are the ambassadors of the school and invite them to be role models to students with regard to cleanliness and hygiene.

Ms Harshitha Shetty introduced the Resource Person Dr Reshma Ganesh, Principal, Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir, Bangalore, East who was felicitated by the dignitaries.

Dr Reshma Ganesh, the Resource Person gave her valuable inputs, lessons and aids on Health and Physical Education. She conducted many activities mainstreaming health and physical education. She highlighted that students have to undertake activities categorized under four strands namely Games, Health and Fitness, SEWA and Health and Activity Card. She expressed that the overall aim of physical education programs is to give the students confidence, competence, understanding and enjoyment of being active and a healthy lifestyle that considers good hygiene, healthy eating and social and emotional well being. Activities are categorized according to the similarity of their outcomes namely athletics, adventure, games, individual sports, health and fitness. She stated about the SEWA Philosophy which takes learning beyond the walls of the classroom and sometimes even beyond the boundaries of the school, building bridges with the authentic and real world in meaningful and positive ways. She urged that all students of classes IX to XII to participate in SEWA programmes throughout the year.

Ms Anitha Pinto, Physical Education Teacher proposed the vote of thanks. The workshop ended at 4.00p.m. Ms Harshitha Shetty compered the programme.
