Emotional support through Mentoring is essential for students : Dr Malini
Puttur : An orientation proramme on student mentoring was organized by Mentoring Unit in association with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at St.Philomena College, Puttur. Dr.Malini, Professor of Chemistry, was the resource person.
“Students in the College are in their formative years. With young and tender minds they have lot of aspirations, dreams and expectations. They face lot of emotional stress. If they miss the love and affection and guidance by parents they may go out of track. In this context the mentoring by teachers is essential.” said by Dr Malini.
“Many students show the outwardly confidence, but drained internally.The expectation from parents, teachers and the society as well, add the fuel to their emotional turmoil. Some students will succumbed to this stress and take the ultimate decision of loss their life itself. At this juncture the teachers help is needed. The counselling and motivational words will bring them out of the mental stress” explained Dr Malini with examples.
Rev.Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, the Principal of the College presided the programme and said “ Teachers should be the roll model to not only students, but the society also. They have to imbibe the good qualities. They have to be patient and humane towards students. They have to listen the problems and emotion of students. During the counselling they have to be careful by keeping the distance from students. Playing with the emotion is not an easy task”
Prof.Prashant Rai rendered the prayer. Coordinator of the mentoring Unit of the College, Prof. Edvin D’Souza welcomed and Dr Dimple Fernandes proposed Vote of thanks. Prof. Nowlin Fernandes compered the programme.
