Athena Institute of Health Sciences holds Graduation Ceremony 2024

Mangaluru: The graduation ceremony of the Athena Institute of Health Sciences was held on March 20, 2024, at 4 p.m. in “Town Hall” in Mangaluru.

The program was initiated with a grandiose procession of the graduates, accompanied by the college band playing to the tunes of congratulations and salutations with magnificent honor at the entrance of town hall.

The president of the program was Mr. R.S. Shettian, Chairman, Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) U.T. Ifthikar Fareed, Syndicate Member Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore. Guest of Honour Prof. (Dr.) Fatima DSilva, Principal, Nitte Usha Institute of Health Sciences, Mangalore; Mrs. Asha Shettian, Secretary, AIHS; Dr. Ashith Shettian, Trustee, AIHS; Sr. Deepa Peter, Principal, Athena College of Nursing; Dr. Nandini M., Principal, Athena Institute of Allied Health Sciences; and Sr. Aileen Mathias, Vice Principal, AIHS, were offered a traditional welcome with “Poornakumba Swagatham as a sign of respect and honour  followed by the Prayer dance performed by the Nursing students.

The dignitaries on the dais lit the Indian Lamp and officially inaugurated the program.

It was a time of celebration where students were lauded for the efforts they put in to obtain their degrees. There were 34 rank holders, and other prize winners in various academic, sports, and cultural activities were awarded. 29 GNM Diploma holders, 75 B.Sc. Nursing, 6 P.B.B.Sc. Nursing, 3 M.Sc. Nursing, and 17 Allied Health B.Sc. graduates received their degree certificates.

Prof. (Dr.) U.T. Ifthikar Fareed,Principal, MV Shetty College of Physiotherapy, and Syndicate Member Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangaluru, was the Chief Guest. He highlighted that whatever we do, do it for the cause. Don’t wait for applause. Keep doing great things… Your presence will always be noticed. He also said to honor the parents, to remember the alma mater, and to achieve great heights in academics.

Prof. (Dr.) Fatima Dsilva, Principal, Nitte Usha Institute of Health Sciences, Mangaluru, was the guest of honour, She focused on the importance of nursing and remembering the teachers who have laid the foundation for your profession.

In his presidential address, Mr. R.S. Shettian, Chairman, congratulated the graduates and wished them good luck in their future endeavors. Success is not measured by how lucrative a health care job is but by how much one contributes to the welfare of the patient with love and compassion.

Rev. Sr. Aileen Mathias, Vice Principal, welcomed the gathering. Rev. Sr. Deepa Peter, Principal of AIHS, presented the annual report of the college and administered the oath to nursing graduates. Dr. Nandini M., Principal of Allied Health Sciences, led the graduation pledge for the Allied Health Sciences graduates.

Mrs. Viola Felicita Dsouza, Asst. Lecturer, read the names of GNM Nursing graduates; Prof. Hemalatha G, HOD of Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing Department, read the names of B.Sc. (N) graduates; and Prof. Sunitha Lobo, HOD of Community Health Nursing Department, read the names of P.B.B.Sc. and M.Sc. nursing graduates, as well. Prof. Jyothimol P. V., Ms. Kavana P. R., and Ms. Sindhu presented the list of awardees. On behalf of all graduates, Ms. Josna Shaji and Mrs. Chinju Kurikose voiced the nostalgic feelings of their days in college and expressed how the teachers have molded them for their better growth.

There was a moment that really added charm to the atmosphere by releasing the 6th edition of College Magazine, ATHESPITHA 2022-2024. It was a remarkable showcase of the college’s vibrant academic and creative spirit, led by the Chief Editor, Sr. Aileen Mathias, Vice Principal, AIHS, and Staff Editor.

Asso. Prof. Nishel Barboza, HOD of the Medical Surgical Nursing Department, proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs. Thelma Melita Pinto and Ms. Monica Sneha compered the graduation ceremony. After the recession, various cultural events were organized for the gathering. Around 1500 people, consisting of graduates, parents, alumni, guests, staff, and students, witnessed the solemn celebration. Graduation dinner was served for all after the program.
