‘Aatidonji Dina’- The Taste of Kudla’ celebrated at Lourdes Central School

On 23th July 2022, a unique programme – ‘Aatidonji Dina’- The Taste of Kudla’ was celebrated at Lourdes Central School. The programme began with the Universal prayer followed by a prayer song, by the school choir.
The day was inaugurated with the opening of Pingara (Areca nut flower) and the lighting of the lamp by Fr. Principal, the teachers incharge and the students.
The school choir presented a medlodious Aati Kalenja song that was accompanied by a dance performance, by Athish Shetty who dressed as ‘Aati Kalenja’ Thanmay Shetty played the tembere (the drum). The performance brought live the tradition of Tulunadu.
The Principal Rev. Fr Robert D’Souza addressed the students and said that Aatidonji Dina reminds us of our own existence in this part of culture. He highlighted the importance of celebrating the culture of Kudla, which develops in us the qualities of caring and sharing. He thanked the teachers and students for making this a memorable event.
The menu for the celebration was Pelakkayidagatti/ garige/dosa, manjoldirettagatti, Patrode and jackfruit chips/ papad and the children enthusiastically brought and shared with their classmates. Aatidonji Dina was not only the revival of the traditions of Kudla but also an appreciation and acknowledgement of the hard working farmers. The objective of organizing this program was to create awareness in the younger generation in order to remember traditional, tasty and healthy dishes. A day indeed to be remembered.
