St Philomena College (Autonomous) Hosts Workshop on Research Informatics to Enhance Academic Inquiry

Puttur, 19 May 2025: St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, under the aegis of its Research and Development Cell, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and the Library and Information Centre, organized a one-day workshop on “Research Informatics” on Saturday at the college’s Seminar Hall. The workshop aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of research methodology and academic writing, with a special focus on nurturing emerging scholars and enhancing faculty research practices.

The programme was presided over by Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of St Philomena College. In his presidential address, he highlighted the critical need for fostering a culture of inquiry and academic excellence in higher education. “Unless we are equipped, we cannot contribute meaningfully to our students. Research is not just a professional requirement; rather, it is a transformative tool for both personal and societal development,” he emphasized.

The resource person for the workshop was Dr Sunil M. V., Assistant Professor in Systems and General Management at the SDM Institute for Management Development, Mysuru. His sessions provided profound insights into contemporary research practices and trends. He emphasized the integral role of research in the teaching-learning ecosystem, stressing how inquiry-driven education enhances classroom engagement and knowledge dissemination. Dr Sunil elaborated on key topics such as Foundations of Research Design, Literature Review and Identifying Research Gaps, and Writing and Disseminating Research. These sessions were well received by the audience, which included faculty members, postgraduate students, and research enthusiasts from various disciplines.

The formal programme began with a prayer rendered by Ms Shivani, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany. Dr Vinayachandra, Registrar (Evaluation) and Director of the Research and Development Cell, extended a warm welcome. Mr Abdul Rahiman G., Senior Grade Librarian, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Ms Suraksha, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science.
