St Joseph’s University holds orientation for the second batch of MCA students
Bengaluru: The orientation for the second batch of MCA students at St. Joseph’s University, Bangaluru, took place on July 8, 2024. Fr. Denzil Lobo SJ, the Dean and Director of the School of Information Technology, commenced the event by invoking God’s blessings on the new students. He quoted Swami Vivekananda, saying, “You should have faith in yourselves, for that faith calls forth divinity from within. You can do anything; you fail only when you lack faith.” Fr. Denzil encouraged the students to embrace the challenges of postgraduate studies and emphasized the importance of hard work for achieving success. He also presented the history of Jesuit institutions globally and discussed the Jesuit educational philosophy, which focuses on the formation of the whole person, both head and heart.
Dr. Melwin Colaco, the Registrar of St. Joseph’s University, welcomed the new students and highlighted the academic rigor at SJU. Dr. Mohandasa, the COE, then explained the examination system at SJU, detailing that Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) accounts for 50% of the final grade, with the end-term exams constituting the remaining 50%. He emphasized the importance of timely assignment submissions and participation in various activities, including the midterm examinations, which are components of the CIA.
Mr. Johnviston, the student coordinator of the IEEE Chapter at SJU, spoke about the benefits of participating in IEEE activities. Dr. Mueen Pasha welcomed the dignitaries, students, and guests to the orientation program.
