St Joseph Engineering College celebrates its College Day

Mangaluru: St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangaluru, celebrated its College Day on May 10, 2024, on the college campus. Professor B. Ravi, Director, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, was the chief guest on the occasion. Mr Preetham Prince Pinto, founder and CEO of Waterz Goa and Tripzzie Dubai and an alumnus of the 2009 batch, was the Guest of Honour. The Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore and President of SJEC, presided over the program.

Dr Rio D’Souza, principal of SJEC, presented the annual report of the college. Rev. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director of SJEC, welcomed the gathering to the occasion. The guests, along with the president, distributed various excellence awards in sports and academics. The university-level rank holders and faculty achievements were also honoured.

Professor B. Ravi spoke about the transition education takes in the current era with a real-life example. He spoke about skills such as creativity, collaboration, problem solving, and communication. industry expects institutions to impart to their students. He said to find out what you love doing in life, what gives you satisfaction in life, and what gives you a feeling of complete accomplishment.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Preetham Prince Pinto said that SJEC is one of the best institutes in the region. He appreciated the management for the immense growth in the infrastructure of the college. He highlighted the importance of being an entrepreneur, being bold, and believing in yourself, which leads to real success. He shared his experience as an entrepreneur, the challenges he faced, and his success journey.

In his presidential address, His Excellency Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, the Bishop of Mangalore, congratulated the achievers for their outstanding achievements in academics and extracurricular activities. He said that humans are irreplaceable in our lives; that’s the benefit of growing together in times of growing technology, which seems to be a threat to humans. He further said that, in the world of machines and technologies, it becomes important to have knowledge and wisdom of heart.

Dr Shakila B., convener of the event, delivered the vote of thanks. Rev. Fr Kenneth R. Crasta, Assistant Director of SJEC; Dr Purushothama Chippar, Vice Principal; Mr Rakesh Lobo, HR Manager of the college; and Dr Ravikantha Prabhu, Convener of the program, were also present during the occasion. Mr Joysun D’Souza and Ms Priya Miranda compered the formal program.

A cultural extravaganza followed the formal event, with the students displaying their wonderful music and dancing skills. The cultural program was compered by Vinol Arun D’Souza, Leslie Kiran Rodrigues, and Mave Lobo.
