St Aloysius University Student Enters India Book of Records for Mathematical Research in Cancer Treatment
Mangaluru, May 21, 2025: Stebin Shibu, a postgraduate student of M.Sc. Mathematics (2023–25 batch) at St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, has been honoured with the prestigious “IBR Achiever” title by the India Book of Records 2025. His award-winning research, titled “Integration of Michaelis-Menten Kinetics and Pontryagin’s Maximum Principle for Optimized Chemotherapy Scheduling,” marks a significant contribution to the emerging field of Mathematical Oncology in India.
The research was officially recognized and certified by the India Book of Records on April 15, 2025, as the first mathematical modelling-based study in India focused on cancer treatment. By integrating Control Theory and advanced Mathematical Models, Stebin’s work offers a novel approach to enhance the efficiency of chemotherapy procedures.


The groundbreaking study was successfully guided by Ms Anupriya Shetty, Head of the Department of Mathematics, and Ms Sweety Basil, faculty member at the same department.
In recognition of the research’s impact, Stebin Shibu has also been nominated for the Asia Book of Records.
Hailing from Kollam, Kerala, Stebin completed his undergraduate studies in Mathematics at Dr A.V. Baliga College, Kumta, and is currently pursuing his postgraduation at St Aloysius University. He is the proud son of Mr Shibu Mathew, Evangelist of the Mar Thoma Church, and Mrs Suni Shibu, both from Kollam.
