St Aloysius University Observes International Yoga Day with Enthusiasm
Mangaluru, June 21, 2025: The Department of Physical Education and Sports Management of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), in collaboration with NCC, NSS, YRC, Delampadi Yoga Foundation, and Decathlon, celebrated the 11th International Yoga Day under the global theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”
The event was graced by Swami Jitakamananda Maharaj of Ramakrishna Math, who served as the chief guest. In his address, he emphasized that yoga, a gift from India to the world, is now embraced globally. He described yoga as a path to holistic personality development that harmonizes body, mind, and energy.
The programme was presided over by Rev. Dr Praveen Martis SJ, Vice Chancellor of St Aloysius University. He highlighted the importance of yoga in today’s fast-paced world, stating that regular practice can lead to a stress-free life by fostering peace, balance, and inner tranquillity. He also reiterated the university’s commitment to promoting yoga among students.


Neeta Shetty, Yoga Director of Delampadi Yoga Foundation, led the yoga session, offering expert guidance on various asanas. She was ably assisted by university yoga students Roshani Shenoy and Sanvi Shetty.
A large number of students, staff members, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, YRC members, and yoga enthusiasts participated with enthusiasm, reflecting the institution’s dedication to wellness and holistic development.
The event also saw the presence of university registrars Dr Allwyn D’Sa and Dr Ronald Nazareth. Dr Ishwar Bhat, the programme coordinator, welcomed the gathering. Arun D’Souza, Director of Physical Education, proposed the vote of thanks, while Roshani Shenoy compered the programme with confidence and poise.
