St Aloysius Pre-University College Celebrates the Festival of Deepavali
Mangaluru: Deepavali, revered as the Festival of Lights, embodies the triumph of light over darkness, wisdom over ignorance, and virtue over malevolence. In alignment with these ideals, the Centre for Inter-religious Harmony at St Aloysius Pre-University College organised a Deepavali celebration. With a steadfast commitment to fostering diversity and multiculturalism, the Centre aspires to bring together students from diverse faiths, encouraging them to exemplify and uphold the principles of peace, unity, integrity, tolerance, and cooperation.
The programme commenced with a soulful rendition of the Sanskrit sloka “Asatoma Sadgamaya,” followed by a prayer song by Vaishnavi, invoking blessings upon the gathering. The ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries then marked the official inauguration, symbolizing the illumination of minds and hearts and the triumph of light over darkness.
In his address, Principal Rev. Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ, emphasised the significance of Deepavali, explaining how light symbolizes divine power, dispelling every form of darkness. He urged the gathering to carry within themselves the light of knowledge, wisdom, goodness, and love. The Principal also encouraged everyone to always stand for truth and light, underscoring that goodness prevails over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and light over darkness.
The event proceeded with a vibrant array of cultural performances that captured the essence of Deepavali, including a meaningful Yakshagana performance, traditional dance forms, and the lighting of diyas that added to the festive atmosphere. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Adwaith, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the event.
The event was graced by the presence of Rev. Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ, Principal of St Aloysius PU College; Vice Principals Ms Vilma Fernandes and Mr Muralikrishna GM; Campus Minister Rev. Fr Anthony Derrick SJ; Finance Officer Rev. Fr Pradeep Sequeira SJ; along with Deans Dr Pradeep M and Ms Kiran Shetty.
The celebration provided an enriching experience that not only honoured cultural heritage but also inspired a profound sense of unity and shared identity among all present. It reminded everyone of the deeper significance of Deepavali in fostering harmony and goodwill within the college community.
