St Aloysius offers New Degree Programmes

June 20, 2024

Mangaluru: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has given approval to St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, to offer two skill/ job-oriented Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) programmes under Deen Dayal Kaushal Kendra, i.e., ‘Sports, Therapy, and Nutrition’ and ‘Retail and Logistics Management’ from the academic year 2024–25.

These courses are 60% practical-based courses, and the students have internships every semester. The students from outside Mangaluru will have free government hostel facilities and also have the opportunity to get scholarships. The classes for these courses will be conducted by qualified faculty and industry experts.

Students who have passed Class 12 examinations or equivalent from any recognized Board of State can apply for B.Voc. programmes. There is also an opportunity to work part-time during the study period. Besides these, B.Voc. degree programmes like Animation and Multimedia, Software Development, Renewable Energy Management, etc. are available, and interested students can apply online for admissions immediately as there are only limited seats.

Our institution was granted DDU Kaushal Kendra by the Central Government in 2015 under the 12th Plan Scheme. The institution was approved to start 3 programmes under B.Voc. in ‘Retail Management’, ‘Food Processing and Engineering’, and ‘Pharmaceutical Chemistry’ from the year 2015. As many as 708 higher educational institutions, including universities, had submitted the proposal for this unique scheme. St Aloysius College is one of 48 institutions selected by UGC throughout the country and is one of two colleges selected as Kaushal Kendra in the entire state. In the year 2018, the institution was approved to start one more B.Voc. programme in ‘Animation and Multi Media’.

Instead of classroom-centered formal education, the students, under Kaushal Kendra, learn through hands-on experience and internships in industry and business firms. Fourteen companies and business firms have signed MoUs with St Aloysius to provide their expertise in administering the said courses. Suitable candidates will get placements in the business units where they get trained. Some students received stipends during their internship. Students who have completed their pre-university course or equivalent can make use of this excellent opportunity. Further, the students also become eligible to pursue postgraduate studies and research in the respective disciplines or allied fields.
