St Agnes College holds Orientation programme for I-Degree students

July 11, 2024

Mangaluru: St Agnes College held an orientation programme to welcome all the newly admitted I Degree students for the academic year 2024–25 with a lot of excitement, hope, and zeal at the Mother Mary Aloysia Centenary Auditorium, St. Agnes College (Autonomous) on July 8, 2024.

This was a joyous occasion to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of our bright and talented students. Ms Anusha Norohna, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, welcomed the gathering by quoting the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams,” which rightly suggests that those who have dreams and firmly believe in their potential to achieve them are more likely to create a positive future for them. The event commenced by invoking God’s blessings, led by Miss Alice & group, and to embody the essence of hospitality, our talented students, Ms. Sahana and group performed an enchanting welcome dance.

With the profound significance of light as a symbol of knowledge and enlightenment, the academic year was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the dignitaries: the Joint Secretary, Sr Dr Maria Roopa A.C., the Principal, Sr Dr M. Venissa A.C., Administrator Sr Carmel Rita A.C., the Vice Principal, Sr Roopa A.C., our Chief Guest, Mrs Vidya Shenoy, and the Student Representatives, embodying the pursuit of wisdom and the path to a promising future.

Mrs Vidya Shenoy, an alumna of St Agnes College, shared her thoughts and experiences with the students and their parents. She quoted the words of Stephen Hawking: “However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.” She motivated the students to take up initiatives, identify the languages & skills to learn, acquire and discover the knowledge that they need to build their confidence, and take up the opportunities given by the college. She advised that the 20-20-20 rule is a technique to help prevent digital eye strain by taking frequent breaks from screens. She urged all the students to take care of their health and their parents to change times as per the requirement.

Final-year BA student, Ms. Privy D’Souza, who is also a professional anchor and event planner, shared her experiences and spoke to the first-year students. “Your talents and abilities will improve over time, but for that, you will have to start,” as quoted by Martin Luther King Jr. Life at St Agnes comes with an entire spectrum of experiences.

Sr. Dr. Maria Roopa, A.C., the Superior of St Agnes Convent and the Joint Secretary of St. Agnes Institution, extended her best wishes to the students by providing the message, “Those of us who have goals and dreams will grow and prosper, and those of us who refuse to risk and grow will get swallowed up by life.

Don’t be afraid to take risks and face challenges; always remain positive in life. Positivity empowers us to confront any risks and tackle any challenges in our lives.

The principal highlighted the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, goals, achievements, development, progress, recognitions, and social responsibility. She mentioned an inspiring story of a sculptor who chiseled stones into beautiful idols, illustrating the willingness to accept change and look forward to being shaped into outstanding individuals, much like a stone accepting the sculptor’s designs to be transformed into an attractive statue. She concluded by stating the need to be a planner of your own life and be ready for your own transformation to become a graduate from St. Agnes College in the forthcoming years.

St. Agnes College, with a rich history spanning a century, has refined its discipline and instilled a sense of responsibility and dedication in its students. Mrs. Shubarekha, the Dean of Administration, enlightened the students about the comprehensive rules and regulations that meticulously govern the esteemed college.

Our hard-working and deserving students were recognized and appreciated. There were 92 recipients of the Merit Scholarship. There were four rank holders who were felicitated by the principal.
