Spandana of St Philomena Autonomous College Secures Silver, Advances to National Weightlifting Championships

Puttur 26 November 2024: In a landmark achievement for St Philomena Autonomous College, Spandana II BSC has clinched a silver medal at the South Zone Inter-University Weightlifting Championship for the 2024-25 season. The event was held at Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, Andra Pradesh, under the auspices of the Association of Indian Universities, from November 26 to November 28, 2024.

Competing in the 45 kg category, Spandana’s performance marked a historic first for the college, as it is the first time a woman weightlifter from St Philomena has secured a medal in this prestigious competition. Her outstanding display technique not only earned her a podium finish but also a spot in the upcoming National Level Inter-University Weightlifting Competition.

The college community, including the Very Rev. Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas, the Correspondent of the College, and Principal Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, along with faculty members and students, have extended their heartfelt congratulations to Spandana. Dr Elias Pinto, the Physical Education Director at the college, is lauded for his guidance and support in nurturing talented athletes like Spandana.
