Padua College Hosts Walkathon to Raise Awareness on Women’s Rights
Mangaluru: The Women’s Forum, in collaboration with the Human Rights Club, YRC, and NSS of Padua College of Commerce and Management, organized an awareness program and walkathon on September 19, 2024, at 10 a.m. on the Padua Campus. The event aimed to raise awareness about various forms of oppression and repression faced by women and to promote women’s empowerment.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by dignitaries, including Principal Rev. Fr. Arun Wilson Lobo, Chief Guest Mrs. Mevis Rodrigues, former Secretary of the Bendur Parish Pastoral Council, Vice Principal Prof. Roshan Santhumayor, Women’s Forum Coordinators Mrs. Deena Pinto and Prof. Thanuja, NSS Coordinator Prof. Shridhar, and Human Rights Club Coordinator Mrs. Krithika.
During her address, Chief Guest Mrs. Mevis Rodrigues highlighted the importance of mothers in our lives and advised female students to avoid starting romantic relationships during college. She also emphasized that society should not place all the blame on the government for social issues. Principal Rev. Fr. Arun Wilson Lobo also addressed the gathering, reinforcing the need for unity and action toward women’s safety and rights.
After the formal program, students participated in the walkathon, which took place from the Padua Campus to Kadri Park and back. The participants chanted slogans advocating for peace, women’s safety, and empowerment. The program concluded at 10:45 a.m.
