NCC Day Celebrated by St Philomena College NCC Units at Prajnashrama
Puttur 24 Nov. 2024: The NCC units of St Philomena College (Autonomous) and St Philomena Pre-University College, the 3/19 Karnataka Battalion NCC Army Wing and the 5 Karnataka Battalion NCC Naval Wing, observed the 76th NCC Day at Prajnashrama, a vocational training and rehabilitation center for the mentally challenged located in Beeralmale.
Recognized as the largest uniformed youth organization in the world, the NCC marked its 76th anniversary with a distinctive celebration aimed at highlighting its commitment to social service and community development. As part of this initiative, the cadets spent quality time with the residents of Prajnashrama, promoting inclusivity and compassion.
In alignment with the dedication of NCC to environmental conservation, fruit-bearing saplings were planted within the Prajnashrama premises. The cadets also shared sweets with the residents and handed over essential daily-use items they had brought for the center.
Sri Annappa and Smt Jyothi, the caretakers of Prajnashrama, provided an overview of the activities and services provided by the center. They expressed their gratitude to the NCC cadets and the colleges for choosing Prajnashrama as the venue for the celebration. They appreciated the efforts of the cadets in recognizing the unique identity and vocational skills of the residents, emphasizing that such gestures bring immense joy and acknowledgment to these individuals.
Under the guidance of Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of St Philomena College (Autonomous), and Rev. Fr Ashok Ryan Crasta, Principal of St Philomena Pre-University College, the event was led by NCC Army Officer Capt. Johnson David Sequeira and NCC Naval Officer Tejasvi Bhatt. Havaldar Anuj Thapa of the 19 Karnataka Battalion NCC, Madikeri, also graced the occasion.
The cadets organized various recreational activities for the residents, making the day memorable.
