Mount Carmel Central School Revels in an Elegant School Feast Celebration

Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru, joyfully celebrated the school feast, the feast of Mary, Mother of Mount Carmel, and the 156th Foundation Day of the Apostolic Carmel on July 18, 2024.

The programme organized by grade IV C and D for the juniors was a vibrant display of faith, tradition, and community spirit that began with an invocation, seeking the intercession and blessings of Mother Carmel. Brennen and Reyansh warmly welcomed the chief guest, Sr Suguna AC, Superior of Bala Yesu Convent, Maryhill, and other esteemed guests, Srs. Trisha and Baiakmenlang, along with the postulants, Sr Carissima, the administrator of the school, teachers, parents, and students. The lighting of the lamp symbolized the start of the auspicious occasion, brightening the path towards strength, growth, and prosperity. A skit highlighted the historical and religious significance of the feast. The celebration included a welcome dance and a mime act, showcasing the transformative power of education for girls.

The chief guest, Sr. Suguna, in her inspiring message, encouraged the students to embody the Carmel virtues in their daily lives. She emphasized the role of education in empowering young girls, a mission close to the heart of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation. The winners of the competition to decorate the class bulletin boards on the occasion of the school feast and the state-level winners of the Wiz Spell Bee and Hand Writing were felicitated. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Atharv, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the celebration. Zac, Jayden, Janya, and Shaina excelled as programme hosts.

The celebration for the seniors was hosted by the students of grades IX A and B. The programme commenced with a solemn prayer service invoking the divine blessings through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Carmel. The students welcomed the audience with a graceful fusion dance, followed by a welcome speech by Reona. The chief guest of the day, Sr Shilpa Maria AC, the Apostolic Carmel Formator, was welcomed with a flower sapling. Angel, Mahaniya, Reana, Arthraj, Adit, and Joyston presented the significance of the day through a short tableau, highlighting the meaning of the word ‘Carmel’. It was followed by a mime act portraying the essential qualities of a good student. The Tutt dance, representing the Egyptian art style, was a mesmerizing show of disciplined hand movements. The French dance troupe brought a spirit of celebration and joy to the event. Finally, all the participants marched on to the stage to the tune of Happy Feast and roared blissful festal wishes to the chief guest and the audience!

Sr Shilpa Maria AC, the chief guest of the day, appreciated the performers and the knowledge the students have about Carmel and its distinct and unique characteristics. Highlighting a few virtues of Mary, Mother of Carmel, and Foundress Venerable Mother Veronica, she urged the students to practice them in their lives and thereby contribute positively to the welfare of their families and society. She released the school magazine 2023–24 along with the other dignitaries. The chief guest also awarded the winners of the state-level Wiz Spell Bee and Hand Writing competitions, as well as the ‘Carmel Garden’ competition held as part of the celebration of the School feast. Ananjan, Rochelle, Ian, and Alyssa anchored the programme and Sharanya delivered the vote of thanks.

Both performances were a testament to the students’ talents and the school’s commitment to holistic development. It was truly an elegant celebration!
