Lourdes Central School celebrates the 10th International Yoga Day

Mangaluru: Lourdes Central School observed International Yoga Day on June 21, 2024, with great enthusiasm. Celebrating its tenth year, International Yoga Day on June 21st focuses on empowering women through the theme ‘Yoga for Women Empowerment’, emphasizing holistic well-being.
The programme commenced with a prayer song led by the school choir. Aiden Dsouza of Grade 8D welcomed the gathering. Sinchana of Grade 8D shared the significance of the day.
The Principal, Rev. Fr Johnson L. Sequeira, Yoga Guru Lion Shivaram Rai, Vice Principal Ms Belita Mascarenhas, and P. Ed. Mr Veerendra Alva inaugurated the International Yoga Day by lighting the lamp.
Yoga Guru Lion Shivaram Rai, who has been a Yogic practitioner for more than 25 years, explained in his address the innumerable benefits of practicing yoga and emphasized the importance of yoga in day-to-day life. He further said that yoga not only develops strength, coordination, flexibility, and balance but also creates awareness of the body and better focus and concentration.
Fr Principal, addressing the students of Grades 8A, B, C, and D, sensitized the students regarding the importance of yoga and encouraged them to have an inner ability to be empowered. Practice regular yoga to remain salubrious. Fr, further added that regular meditation will help to get away from normal tension and stress. A healthy mind lies in a healthy body.
The Yoga Guru, Lion Shivaram Rai, was honoured with a memento as a token of gratitude.
The yoga session was facilitated by the yoga guru, who demonstrated and guided students in understanding and performing standing, sitting, and sleeping postures in yoga asanas.
A total of 200 students and 12 faculty members attended the session. All students participated eagerly.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Saachi Shetty of Grade 8D.
