Lourdes Central School celebrates International Girl Child Day
All I want is an education, and I am afraid of no one – Malala Yousufzai
Mangaluru: Lourdes Central School celebrated LCS International Girl Child Day 2023 with the theme ‘Our Time Is Now—Our Rights, Our Future’ on October 11 during the morning assembly, creating awareness about the rights of a girl child, promoting education for girls, and respecting them.
The students of Class VIII C, along with their teacher, Ms Lavina Serrao, presented a beautiful assembly, beginning with a prayer for every girl child and continuing with the intentions. The thought for the day, ‘To save a girl is to save a generation’, stressed the importance of the day.
The significance of the day called on people to spread awareness about the gender-based discrimination that girls face in our society and to empower them by educating them.

The heart-touching short play enacted by the students showed how a rejected girl child grows up to be a doctor and save her father, who disowned her.
The Vice Principal, Mrs Belita Mascarnhas, congratulated the class for the meaningful assembly and the emotional play put up by the students. She also appreciated the schoolboy students who have a cordial relationship with the girls and respect them. She mentioned that girls now are more capable than in the past, but a few more need to reach this pinnacle of success.
The assembly ended with a resolution and a call to help and save every girl child.
