LCS observed Vanamahotsava week with the theme ‘Nurture nature, secure our future’
Mangaluru: LCS observed Vanamahotsava week from July 1, 2024, to July 6, 2024, to create awareness about increasing the green cover in India by planting more trees and promoting afforestation. The activities and assemblies were later extended until July 13, 2024.
The LCS Vanamahotsava Week was inaugurated with the theme “Let us plant a tree; let us plant a hope.” The students presented the assembly on this topic. The pledge to make sustainable use of our natural environment and also to protect all species, particularly those that are rare or endangered, was chanted by all the students.
A week-long assembly with different topics related to the lives of famous environmentalists like Salumarada Thimamakka, Sunderlal Bahuguna, and Greta Thunberg was organized by the students. The following activities were also conducted on July 5th in their respective classes:.
- For Classes I–III, drawing, the theme is ‘Beauty of Nature’.
- For Classes IV-V, poster making with the theme ‘Planting for the Future,”
- For Classes VI–VIII, Creative Ad Challenge, theme: Organic Food ‘.
Students actively participated in all the activities, which increased awareness and love for trees. The activities helped the students identify their talents and gain in-depth knowledge about trees and nature. The celebration of this festival inculcated the value of loving nature and growing more trees.
On the occasion of the finale, the members of the Eco Club organized a plantation drive in the school A.V. room on July 13th. The resource person, Mr Shreedhar Kumar, Assistant Conservator of Forests, inaugurated the plantation drive by planting a sapling. The Principal, Rev. Fr Johnson L. Sequiera, Vice vice principal, Ms Belita Mascarenhas, Ms. Gretta Menezes, the Eco Club incharge teacher, and Ms Sowmya K. were present. The resource person, Mr Shreedhar Kumar, spoke about the role of trees in conserving nature and also the need to save them. He also urged the students to make a promise to plant at least one sapling on their birthdays. The program ended with an address from the Principal, Rev. Fr Johnson L. Sequeira, who highlighted the importance of plants and animals in our day-to-day lives.
The compering of the programme was beautifully done by Mehenoor of class VIII, and Shaman of class VIII proposed the Vote of Thanks. Ms Reshma was the overall in charge of this programme.
