Felicitation to Soorikumeru K. Govinda Bhat & Yakshagana Talamaddale held at St Aloysius College (Autonomous)

Mangaluru: St. Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru in association with Radio Sarang 107.8 FM  and STRIDE Scheme of UGC organised Yakshagana Thalamaddale titled “Anaatha Ajeya” the singular tale of Ekalavya, on Wednesday, 28th October 2020 in the L. F. Rasquinha Hall, LCRI Block between 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

During the programme, Soorikumeru K. Govind Bhat was honoured for his Seven decades of long and dedicated service to Yakshagana. After honouring, Rector of St. Aloysius Group of Institutions Fr. Melwin J. Pinto said, “Surikumaru K. Govinda Bhat is known as ‘The Walking Encyclopedia of Yakshagana’.  It is not an easy task for an artiste to travel continuously for 70 years in Yakshagana. Govinda Bhat knows art and maintains physical fitness. This shows the commitment and discipline of Govinda Bhat as an artiste. He is truly an example for everyone.”

Principal, Rev. Dr Praveen Martis, SJ, said that, “Having a long history of 140 years, St Aloysius College has always been a center of literary and cultural activities. Yakshagana is a vibrant art of our soil and we should constantly promote this great art in the educational institutions.” K. Govinda Bhat is one of the most versatile performers of Yakshagana art. He has ably performed the characters from ‘Chaaraka’ to ‘Thaaraka’ in Yakshagana.

KavyaShri Nayak Ajeru performed Bhagavathike, Chaitanya Krishna Padyana played Maddale and Sridhara Vittal played Chende. Veteran artiste Soorikumeru K. Govind Bhat played the role of “Ekalavya”, Dr Dinesh Nayak played the role of  Arjuna and Jabbar Samo Sampaje played the role of Dronacharya.

Various Jesuit priests, Directors of various blocks, Deans, Heads of Departments, teaching and non-teaching staff and Yakshagana lovers from Mangaluru participated in the programme.

Director of Radio Sarang, Rev. Dr. Melwyn Pinto SJ, welcomed and introduced the artistes. Dr Dinesh Nayak read the Citation of Soorikumeru K. Govinda Bhat. RJ Abhishek compered the programme and proposed the vote of thanks.

The programme was live telecasted in Namma Kudla, Youtube and Facebook of Radio Sarang.
