Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, SJEC Hosts Open House and Comprehensive Placement Training for 6th Semester ECE Students

Mangaluru: The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, St Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru, in collaboration with the Placement and Training Group, as part of the UDAAN initiative, organized an extensive series of events aimed at preparing 6th semester ECE students for successful placements.

Open House 2024

On May 17, 2024, the “Open House 2024” event was held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Fr Fred Hall, AB-1. The event was designed to address the specific needs and challenges faced by ECE students in their pursuit of successful placements. The panel for the discussion included 8th semester ECE students: Ms. Nissi Linnet Dsouza, Mr Prashanth Parashurama Koti, Mr Shravan, Mr Sonal Tennison Monis, Ms. Swathi Rai M, and Mr Vinod Nikhil Monteiro. They shared their experiences and strategies for placement preparation, emphasizing the importance of projects, internships, courses, and grooming etiquette in their interview success. Additionally, they highlighted the necessity of programming knowledge for both IT and core placements.

Dr Dayakshini, Prof. & Head, Dept. of ECE, and Mr Glenson Toney, Asst. Prof., Dept. of ECE and Training Coordinator, T&P Cell, SJEC, addressed the students, providing valuable guidance on placement preparations. The session was moderated by Ms. Nandini Mani Narayana and Ms. Florence Nishmitha, Asst. Prof., Dept. of ECE. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing participants to engage with the panel members and seek further clarification.

Placement Training Activities

The placement training activities were conducted in three phases:

  1. Crafting Effective Resumes

On June 12, 2024, from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM, a session on “Crafting Effective Resumes” was held at Fr Fred Hall. Ms. Florence Nishmitha and Mr Glenson Toney provided students with comprehensive insights on how to prepare effective resumes.

  1. Resume Feedback Sessions and Level Up Your Resume

From June 18 to June 20, 2024, students received detailed feedback on their resumes from Ms. Nandini Mani Narayana, Ms. Padmini Bhat, Ms. Preetha D’Souza, Ms. Florence Nishmitha, Mr Radhakrishna, Mr Glenson Toney, and Dr Aldrin Vaz, Asst. Prof., Dept. of ECE. These sessions were crucial in helping students refine their resumes and enhance their appeal to potential employers.

On June 21, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, a session titled “Level Up Your Resume” was held in the classrooms of the Dept. of ECE. The faculty members provided further refinements to the students’ resumes, ensuring they were polished and professional.

  1. Mock Interviews

The training activities culminated on June 29, 2024, with a day-long session of mock interviews (technical and HR) held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Training & Placement Cell, SJEC. The panel included four technical experts: Mr Pavan Raj and Mr Pringal D’Souza from KarMic Design Pvt. Ltd., Mr Vageesha and Mr Prathik from Brevera Technologies, and four HR professionals: Mr John Rohan from Global E-Softsys, Ms. Diana Bangers from Novigo Solutions, Ms. Sanjana Gopal from EGDK India Pvt. Ltd., and Ms. Priya from Exito Media Concepts Pvt. Ltd.

These comprehensive placement training initiatives provided students with the necessary skills and confidence to excel in their future careers, equipping them to meet the demands of the job market successfully.
