Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships 2023: Thrishul Gowda of St Philomena College to Represent India

Puttur: Thrishul Gowda of St Philomena College, Puttur, will be representing India at the Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships 2023 to be held in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, from September 13 to 17. The selection was based on his performance at the 18th National Pool Life Saving Championship held at Ray Centre, Wilson Garden Bangalore, from June 8 to 11, 2023, and the time trials camp from July 9 to 11, 2023, in Pune, Maharashtra. In the tournament, which demanded astounding performances, Thrishul won two Gold Medals.

Currently, Thrishul Gowda is studying II B.A. at St Philomena College, Puttur.

Being a Team India Member is an honour as it requires special commitment in terms of practise, performance, and behaviour as a representative of India in an unknown land.

Fr Stany Pinto, and the faculty members of the College congratulate Thirshul Gowda for his achievement and wish him all the best for his future endeavours and at the upcoming Championship in Canada.

The coaches Partha Varanashi, Rohit Prakash, Niroop GR, and Seetaram Gowda of Vswim Academy and Puttur Aquatic Club are training the swimmers at Balavana Swimming Pool, Puttur.

St Philomena College has an excellent track record in the arenas of weightlifting, football, cricket, and kabaddi, along with achievements in Swimming. In the year 2022, the college football team emerged as the winners, the weightlifting team secured the third overall position, and a significant number of players represented Mangalore University in Cricket. In 2023, the college team achieved the runner-up position in the Mangalore University-level kabaddi championship.

Volleyball, athletics, and badminton teams have performed extremely well across the years. The college women’s volleyball team bagged Runners-up in the university-level invited teams Volleyball tournament. Beulha PT of III B.com won a gold medal in the State-level Weightlifting Competition among women athletes, and this achievement paved her way to represent the Karnataka State at the Khelo India weightlifting competition. The college extends every support with regard to the sports activities along with academics, where too students exhibit brilliant performance.
