Agni Brothers Crowned Champions of Volleyball League SPVL Season 1 at St Philomena College (Autonomous)

Puttur, 21 May 2025: In a vibrant celebration of athleticism and teamwork, St Philomena College (Autonomous), Darbe, Puttur, successfully hosted its maiden Volleyball League — SPVL Season 1, organized by the Department of Physical Education. The grand finale and valedictory ceremony took place on Monday at the college grounds.

Emerging as champions of this inaugural league-style tournament were the Agni Brothers, while The GOATs secured the runners-up position. Among individual accolades, Varun of The GOATs was named Best Attacker, Charan from Agni Brothers received the Best Passer award, and Manish, also from Agni Brothers, was adjudged the Best All-Rounder.

The league witnessed spirited participation from four dynamic teams: Agni Brothers, The GOATs, Call Drax, and Lil Pawns. While the former two advanced to the finals, Call Drax and Lil Pawns were eliminated during the league stages.

Presiding over the closing ceremony, Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the College, emphasized the institution’s commitment to holistic development, stating:

“Our college administration consistently emphasizes academic excellence alongside sports and cultural pursuits. It is through discipline, dedication, and persistent engagement that true success in life can be achieved.”

The chief guest of the event, Mr Pradip, a senior volleyball player and proprietor of AMR Sports Wears, inspired participants with his words:

“In any chosen field, when we engage with passion — be it sports or academics — success is inevitable. Many who sweated it out on these very grounds of Philomena have gone on to earn respectable positions in society.”

Dr Vijaykumar Moleyar, Vice Principal of the college, also addressed the gathering, underscoring the importance of physical activity for overall well-being:

“Our health can remain stable only through daily physical activities. Students should aspire not just to participate at the college level but aim for representation at university and international levels.”

Also present on the dais were Hexon Fernandes, President of the Students’ Council, and Anvesh Rai, Sports Secretary.

The event commenced with a warm welcome by Dr Elias Pinto, Director of Physical Education, who also announced the list of winners and delivered the vote of thanks. Mr Rajesh Mulya, Director of Physical Education at St Philomena Pre-University College, extended his active support throughout the league.
