25 Glorious Years of YCS Angelore Celebrated with Enthusiasm

Mangaluru – The Young Catholic Students (YCS) Movement, an international initiative for PUC students, aims to build a strong foundation for their future. Guided by the motto “Building a New Society,” YCS members are empowered through the “See, Judge, Act, and Evaluate” methodology, which helps them address youth-related issues during their cell meetings.

The Angelore Unit of YCS, established in 2000, celebrated its Silver Jubilee on April 20, 2025. Rev. Fr Roshan D’Cunha, Diocesan Director of YCS, was the Chief Guest of the celebration. Very Rev. James D’Souza, Vicar Forane of St. Peter City Deanery, and Rev. Fr Vijay Monteiro, Director of St. Peter City Deanery, were the Guests of Honour. The event was presided over by Rev. Fr Fredrick Monteiro, Parish Priest. Also present were Socius Rev. Fr Stany Fernandes, Deacon Jeevan Shailesh Lobo, Founder Animator Mrs Juliana Mascarenhas, Parish Council President Mr Paul Rodrigues, Secretary Mrs Lolina D’Souza, current Animators Ms Renita Menezes and Mr Roshan Patrao, Unit President Mr Leon D’Souza, Secretary Mr Sheldon Menezes, National Convenor Mr Anson Nazareth, Diocese President Mr Deyon Saldanha, State Convenor Mr Briston Rodrigues, and Varado President Mr Daryl Monteiro.

Mr Leon D’Souza, Unit President, welcomed the gathering, followed by Mr Ralph Menezes, who presented a detailed report on the 25-year journey of YCS Angelore. Animator Mr Roshan Patrao proposed the vote of thanks.

Rev. Fr Roshan D’Cunha, Rev. Fr James D’Souza, and Rev. Fr Fredrick Monteiro addressed the gathering, congratulating the members on reaching this significant milestone.

As part of the celebrations, past and present Directors, Assistant Directors, Animators, and Presidents of the unit, as well as local artists, were felicitated. A special honour was given to Ms Jeswita Quadras, the first Mangalorean to serve as National President of YCS in its 50-year history.

The formal programme was ably compered by Mr Shaun D’Sa and Ms Melora Monteiro. A vibrant flash mob performance by the YCS members emerged as the highlight of the day, captivating the audience.

Adding further colour to the occasion, the 16th edition of Maxim Nite was organised. Renowned singers, including local talent from Angelore, delighted the audience with melodious performances. The musical pieces were complemented by breathtaking dances from the Urban Groove troupe. Comedy group Memori, a household name, entertained the crowd with their trademark humor. The event was professionally compered by the popular MC, Mr Sheldon Crasta.

The celebrations concluded on a joyful note with a lively baila dance, participated in by the young and old alike.
