Udupi: Oct. 17: Sarva Dharma Souharda Samiti, Shankerpura, organised Moharram Celebration on Thursday, 12th October 2017, at 06.30PM, at Sarakari Gudde, Subhasnagara, for all communities. People belonging to all caste and creed were present.
The program began with a prayer by Shri Chandra Poojary. Mr. Antony D’Sa, President of St John’s Evangelist Church Souharda Samiti, Shankerpura, welcomed the gathering and explained briefly the genesis of Souharda Samiti. Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Gonsalves, Parish Priest of St. John the Evangelist Church, Shankerpura and Correspondent of St. Johns Educational Institutions, Shankerpura presided over the function and inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp. In his inaugural address he wished all the Muslims a Happy Moharram and spoke on the urgency of communal harmony in the vicinity. The immediate need of the society is not wealth, power or qualification but Souharda. He said, to remain in harmony and friendship, the young generation of today should follow the teaching of Swamy Vivekananda. He appreciated the selfless work of all committee members of Sarva Dharma Souharda Samiti.
Shri Akbar Ali Sahab, General Secretary of Salihat Educational Institutions, Hoode, Kemmannu, explained the importance of the Moharram month. He said the Souharda friendship should begin at home and children from all communities must respect their parents with dignity. Shri Sujith Kotian, Lecturer, MGM College, Udupi and Shri Shrikath Shetty, Journalist, spoke very powerfully and effectively on the grave need of communal harmony.
The students from the Government High Primary School, Subhasnagara and Thavakkal Young Men’s Committee, youth from the Muslim community, presented very attractive dances. Shri Mark Vaz, Smt. Agnes D’Sa, Shri Abubakar and Shri Naveen Amin, introduced the President and the chief guest respectively. Shri U. Nandan Kumar, the Secretary of Souharda Samiti, proposed the vote of thanks. Shri Mohammed Hanif compeered the entire program very meaningfully.
