Bangalore: The Federation of Konkani Catholic Associations celebrates Federation Day

Bangalore: Feb. 6: The Federation of Konkani Catholic Associations(R), celebrated its 21st Federation Day, on Sunday, 4th of February, 2018, at the Good Shepherd Auditorium, Museum Road, Bengaluru. The program began with the Konkani drama, “Yours Obediently”, by Arun Raj and team from Mangaluru.

The award ceremony commenced at 6.30 pm. Hon’ble Justice, P. Vishwanatha Shetty, Lokayuktha, Governament of Karnataka, was the Chief Guest. His Grace, Most. Rev. Dr. Bernard Moras, presided over the function. Mr. Ivan D'souza,  Chief Whip to the Karnataka Legislative Council, Mr. J R Lobo, Hon’ble MLA, Mangaluru South Constituency and Mr. R. Sampath Raj, Mayor, Brahut Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, were the guests of honour. 

FKCA Chairman, Dr. Edward Anand D'souza, welcomed the gathering and gave a brief on FKCA which has over 32 Konkani Catholic Associations affiliated to it from Bangalore, Mysore, Shimoga, Chickmangalore, Kuwait, Dubai, Abudhabi, Oman, Canada, USA and UK. FKCA honoured three eminent personalities from the Konkani community for their meritorious contributions to the society. The awardees are Sri. Paul Moras for Lifetime Achievement Award, Smt. Corrine Antoinette Rasquinha for Professional Excellence Award and Sri.Vivek Aranha, for Entrepreneur of The Year Award. 

The Federation Day celebrations also included a cultural programme, dance, music and a Konkani drama. 

Sri. Sunil Coutinho, General Secretary of FKCA, read out the annual report. Smt.Clemence Dsilva gave the vote of thanks. The programme of the day was compered by Sri. Royston Pinto and Dr.Seema Fernandes.

About the Awardees :

Sri. Paul Moras - Life time Achievement Award. He is an eminent personality and well known Konkani Activist, literateur, researcher and social worker. He has rendered service to the Konkani Community in the last 3 decades. He has also published Konkani research volumes and several research articles. His books have been selected for higher studies in Goa and Mangalore universities. He has also been awarded by the Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy, Government of Karnataka.

Smt. Corrine Antoinette Rasquinha - Professional Excellence Award. She is the founder of White Doves, an NGO based at Mangalore. A good Samaritan, leader, she is a name people in Mangalore are happy to hear, providing shelter, rehabilitation and more to the destitute street people, without discrimination of caste, creed and gender. She has changed thousands of lives who were in need and reunited many destitutes with their family members. White Doves runs two homes for the destitutes in the Dakshina Kannada district. Her NGO has been recognized by the local administrations and national, international associations, etc..

Sri. Vivek Aranha, Chairman, Rosary Education Group, Pune - Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Vivek Aranha, Chairman, Rosary Education Group, Pune, a multifaceted personality, is the head of Second generation Aranha family. The Aranha family have been pioneers in the field of Education for the past 58 years. Vivek Aranha, born in the family of educationalists, is a multifaceted personality with masters degree in Education/Sociology and English from the Pune University- a rank holder in his Post Graduate degrees. Having started in a small way, with one school, in 1958, the Rosary Education Group blossomed into a vast Institution with 8 Schools, 2 Colleges and a Teachers Training Institute under his leadership. Rosary has on its roll more than 10000 students.
