Stuttering Awareness Week 2025: Breaking the Silence, One Voice at a Time – Father Muller College of Speech and Hearing
Mangaluru: Every year, from May 9 to 15, the global community observes Stuttering Awareness Week—a dedicated time to shed light on a condition that affects not just communication but also confidence and social inclusion. At Father Muller College of Speech and Hearing, this week is an opportunity to raise awareness, foster empathy, and promote early intervention for individuals who stutter.
Stuttering, also known as stammering, is a speech disorder characterized by interruptions in the normal flow of speech. These may include repetitions (e.g., “li-li-like this”), prolongations (e.g., “llllike this”), or involuntary pauses. It is one among several speech and language disorders, including articulation difficulties, voice disorders, and language delays. Left unaddressed, these challenges can significantly impact a person’s self-esteem, academic performance, and social life.
As summer holidays begin, this is the ideal time for parents and caregivers to proactively screen children for speech or language difficulties. Early detection and timely therapy can transform lives—and at Father Muller College of Speech and Hearing, an expert team is ready to help through this year’s awareness initiative.

Leading the team is Prof. Cynthia Santhmayor, Principal of the College and a seasoned speech-language pathologist with a Master’s degree from the USA. Her commitment to helping individuals—young and old—has led to countless success stories of renewed confidence and clear communication.
