St Philomena College Observes International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women
Puttur Non 25: Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Anti Women Harassment Cell and Youth Red Cross Society of St Philomena College jointly organised an’ Awareness Jatha’ with the student members of the unit. This campaign was launched to create awareness about the social injustice towards women in the society. Noveline N D’souza, convenor of Anti Women Harassment Cell briefed the participants about the Jatha and injustice meted out to women and the steps to be taken to eradicate the same and about the societal responsibilities to be carried out by every individual.
Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the College inaugurated the Jatha by handing over a placard one among the the student participants. Speaking on the occasion he said students should involve in awareness jathas and should be a role model to others since they are the educated members of this society. He appreciated the two functional units of the college for their efforts to create an awareness among the students and the public with regard to the issues of women.
The Vice principals of the College, Prof Ganesh Bhat K and Dr A P Radhakrishna, faculty members, Office Superintendent John Monteiro, were present on the occasion.
The Jaatha started from the College Quadrangle with the students raising placards and slogans related to awareness creation about social injustice to women and concluded formally at the main entrance of the College. Police personnel extended support in overseeing the activity.
Students with best slogans and placards were awarded with prizes.
