St Joseph Engineering College and CHD Group jointly host Seminar on Regional Road Safety
Mangaluru: St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC) and CHD Group supported by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India conducted a Regional Seminar on Road Safety under the theme of “Being Alert on the Roads” and “Importance of Seat Belts.”
The Regional Seminar was inaugurated by Shri Ravishankar P, Assistant Regional Transport Officer, DK District. Over 750 students participated in the entire deliberation. The students expressed happiness as it was the first time they were exposed to such a programme on road safety and that too coinciding with International Day of Happiness.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Edmond Fernandes, CEO of CHD Group highlighted the fact that over 400 people die on India’s roads every day. He narrated his experience on how CHD Group brought out a road safety user-id card for all citizens who wished to use it and the way CHD Group was instrumental in advocating for driver’s seat belt in 2015 much before the judiciary passed a compulsory mandate recently.
Dr Rio D’Souza, Principal of St Joseph Engineering College shared his remarks on how road safety remains an integral part of engineering commitments and how crucial it is to engage in road safety as well as accident prevention.
Shri Ravishankar P spoke at length narrating various methods which become instrumental in road safety and also spoke on legislative changes in the recent past. He walked the students through life touching stories that have permanently changed the way people approached the roads. He complemented SJEC and CHD Group for the initiative while thanking the young minds for a patient hearing.
Rev Fr. Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, Director of SJEC, Rev. Fr Rohith D’Costa & Rev. Fr Alwyn Richard D’Souza, Assistant Directors of SJEC, Mr Rakesh Lobo, HR Manager of SJEC, Mr Iroll Magnus, Lead-Administration at CHD Group, Mr Shawn Fernandes, Road Safety Activist were also present on the occasion.
