St Aloysius University Pays Tribute to Prof. I.V. Rao
Mangaluru: St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) paid heartfelt tribute to Prof. I.V. Rao, a dedicated educator who served the Department of Physics for 25 remarkable years, from 1976 to 2001. Prof. Rao passed away on June 9, 2025.
In his honour, a solemn condolence meeting was held at the L.F. Rasquinha Hall of the University, bringing together faculty members and staff to remember and celebrate his life and legacy.
Dr. Ishwara Bhat, Professor of Physics and Director of Xavier Block, fondly recalled Prof. Rao’s invaluable contributions to the department and the student community. Highlighting his scholarly work, including several authored books, Dr. Bhat praised Prof. Rao’s selfless spirit and the deep respect he earned from both students and colleagues.
Rev. Dr. Praveen Martis, S.J., Vice-Chancellor of St Aloysius University, shared his personal reflections, remembering Prof. Rao as his former teacher and paying heartfelt tribute to the mentor who shaped many minds with dedication and humility.
Dr. Rose Veera D’Souza, President of the Staff Association, remembered Prof. Rao for his simplicity, humility, and collegiality. She encouraged the faculty to emulate his values and dedication to the academic community.
The condolence meeting was attended by the faculty of the Physics Department and teaching staff across the university, who gathered in reverence to honour a life devoted to education and service.
Prof. I.V. Rao’s legacy will remain etched in the hearts of those he taught and worked with, inspiring generations to come.
