St Agnes College (Autonomous) Celebrates International Women’s Day

March 8, 2020

Mangaluru: The Women’s cell of St Agnes College (autonomous) celebrated International Women’s Day on the theme “I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights” on 7 March 2020.

Dr Derek Lobo, Former, Regional Director, United Nations, WHO, South East Asia region & Former, CASK President, Mangalore was the Guest of honour and Mrs Geanette Dsouza
Alumni Vice-President was the chief guest of the programme.
The program began with the blessing of almighty. Mrs Prima Dsouza, Women Cell Co-ordinator welcome the gathering.

Dr Derek Lobo addressed in his message that the emerging global consensus is that despite some progress, real change has been agonizingly slow for the majority of women and girls in the world. Today, not a single country can claim to have achieved gender equality. Multiple obstacles remain unchanged in law and in culture. Women and girls continue to be undervalued; they work more and earn less and have fewer choices; and experience multiple forms of violence at home and in public spaces. Therefore, there is a need for women to actively participate in society and bring up the social change in gender equity.

Mrs Geanette Dsouza shared her views on womanhood and encouraged the gathering to recognize the importance of women in our lives and to the society and motivate them for greater future achievements.
Sr Dr Jeswina AC principal of St Agnes College (autonomous) presided over the programme.

Women’s cell members showcased various phases in the life of women by performing Mime show, singing entertainment song and students from post graduate department performed an thematic dance. The Agnesian Alumni Association then continued the programme to honour the women achievers of the college. Mrs Vivid Dsouza, secretary of Alumni Association proposed the vote of thanks. Women’s cell member Dale and Ruhi compered the programme.
