Squares, Circles, Triangles, and Rectangles in Action by the LKG children of Mount Carmel Central School
Mangaluru: The LKG children of Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru, had a week-long hands-on experience with shapes, which laid the basic foundation for their day-to-day lives. The shapes, like square, circle, triangle, and rectangle, were modelled using ctivity-based learning.
The square-shaped paper folding boats were made, which improved their fine motor skills. Also, this activity was much enjoyed by floating these boats in the puddles.
To understand the circle, it was practiced by rolling chapathis. The children enjoyed holding the rolling pin to roll on the board.
The triangle and rectangle were practiced by using straws. Another activity of pasting the shapes in their drawing book was fun. Making models like a house, a rocket, and an engine drilled the concept of shapes into their little minds. It was followed by a pick-and-speak exercise.
The most enjoyable activity was “shape games,” which were conducted on the open grounds. During the snack break, the little ones enjoyed the snacks in various shapes that they brought from home. Finally, the children loved sharing their joy of learning different shapes with their parents, with a takeaway prepared by their teachers.
